Samyang 14mm F2.8 – Nikon Mount – ED AS IF UMC

16.01.15, London –  Samyang 14mm F2.8 ED AS IF UMC Ultra Wide Angle Lens on the Nikon FX Mount. After using 24-70 F2.8mm and going wide with 20mm F2.8 I wanted to go even wider to the widest possible and that was pushing me to the 14mm. I didn’t have the budget neither a wish to put that much into a lens which would not see the light of the day in regular use and not be used extensively to be given a price of a Nikon ultra wides. I decided to move off the Nikon to give myself a chance to try something different.

With the valid reasons that ultra wide justifies you more in the travel scenarios and ultra wide scenarios which works awesome on the big MegaPixels guzzlers like Nikon D800\D800E\D810. I took a jump and ordered the new Samyang 14mm F2.8 via Amazon UK and it was sharp for a normal delivery cycle. Second day on the Free delivery is a good service. It didn’t put a hole in my savings as it was moderately priced for a wide angle F2.8. It is nearly 1/5th price of a Nikon F2.8. I will not call it a downside if you are using manual on such wide angle as you are possibly not going to do action shots that requires you to sharp focus on the moving objects. I have grown up through the ages as a child using the manual focus lenses and it doesn’t stops me from going back to Manual focus again. It is a old school thought but in all honesty that price makes me have a kick and put it to the test.

On the first impressions, out of the box – It is a very good quality light and solidly put together lens. The petal hood is plastic but well covered in its shell to avoid any damages to the lens. I do love the way you feel when you hold it. Here is the small unboxing video of it.

In terms of sharpness and quality of the images – there is indeed a flaw around the lines. You do not get the same straight lines but that is the case in all the ultra wide angle lenses. Here is the sample image at F2.8 without any editting and straight from the sensor of 36mpx D810.

With low to medium light I do not find this lens to be any problems with Fringing. I would certainly see a different aspect when I would have to test this in the sunny day against the fringing. There is a slight moderation with edges that they are not sharp as you would expect them to be but if you look in the image above in its full resoltion I do not find this to be an issue in my perspective. Also the FX sensors offers huge potential to crop your image to the likings. Looking at the sharpness perspective if you look at the sign posts – there lines and the sharpness of the text is as clear as you would like it to be. The lens weighs in at 530gms for Nikon mount. Canon mount is 552gms.

In terms of using this lens for video\Cine use there is another version which is similar or actually less than the price of the photo lens and the difference is in the focus ring on cine is different and it is measured in T points instead of F point.

KEIS Heated Inner Gloves – REVIEW

All these years riding in winters and yet knowing that I do not like the cold fingertips I was on the hunt for the heated gloves. There are lot of options to choose from at first and too many questions as each seller has its own selling point. A lot of time spend finding out the real good ones as these all heated gloves are well over £150 mark in general. First few brands that come to the mind are GERBINGS, KEIS, EXO2, WEISE(latest), ALPINESTARS and few others (I possibly don’t know of).

I had my own limitations in terms of what I want – as I wear a HG leathers jacket which has a zipper and cuff that is not too big to take any wide cuffs from the gloves inside it yet close it perfectly fine for riding in rains. I wanted something that would slip inside my jacket at the same time. I was surprised that none of the glove makers think of this thought that biker would want to avoid the water coming down the gloves and letting that water get inside of your gloves. Really a shame as that was my biggest deciding factor.

I headed to the Infinity Motorcycles store, Hanger Lane as I wanted to be 100% sure before investing into something that I would regret later. Jack was kind and courteous enough to explain me the inner workings of these gloves and which one would suit me as I was cutting down on my options as I was sure that I do not want any glove going over my jacket instead it needs to go under the cuffs.
Coming to the point where nothing really fits to what I wanted KEIS inner gloves at £59.99 was the only thing I could think of. I would say, a bit of limitation but yet that is all I could get. I was offered a external charger at £59.99 if I want these inner gloves to be operated separately without fitting them into the battery but it would have proved too costly in real essence of it. Most other products from the KEIS gloves range have heated element on the top end near knuckles. This was the only pair that has heated element on the fingers as that is what I actually need instead of heated upper knuckles or upper part of the hand.

Now, after the first day of its usage I can officially tell you the good, the bad and the ugly about it in practical scenario. My ride to work is about 100miles and just under two hours in the early morning rush hour on the variable tarmac conditions from country roads, Motorway riding and city traffic.

Fitting/getting into one : Ok, all said – these are not the thinnest of the inner gloves you would think of. If you have got the thick fingers be ready to check these with your ideal over gloves. I have decided to use them with the lobster kind of over gloves as my HG normal finger leather gloves are too tight and very uncomfortable to wear these inside. I also bought SPADA Eighty 2 Lobster kind of gloves along with these to enjoy the toasty fingers. I later ending up ordering HALVARSSONS JOX Gloves as the SPADA length was issue fitting it inside my leather cuffs again. Fitting wise these would take one to either getting used to feeling comfortable or ordering a different type of over gloves. I found it quite annoying joining these to the power supply coming from the battery when wearing lobster kind of gloves.

Heating/Comfort : Alright, here comes the good part – you would have your fingers feeling toasty within first 2minutes and you would feel quite good warmth getting generated around your fingers. Lovely to feel the warmth but soon you would know that this will get to the point where you may want to stop it from heating but there is no kill switch. Either you take the heat as it comes or remove it from the power supply. There is no science around these very basic gloves but when on the move you would realise they just maintain the equilibrium for the fingers when on the motorway as the wind-chill factor eventually pushes the limits of real testing. These do come out quite good on the motorways and full marks on the heating elements in it. You can use these gloves for hiking in snow or even cold climates if you shell more £’s for external battery that can last for couple of hours as the selling peeps say.

Price : These are towards the higher end of pricing but then it does offer what you want out of it. I would possibly add to this blog when I have thoroughly tested these to the use . I do feel these are expensive as anything under £50 would have made these hot sellers for all the winter riders. Just a tenner over £50 and it kills the general riders approach to it.

Alternatives : WEISE Montana Heated Gloves @ £199.99 but they would keep you full on blast warm and the comfort wise too good for what they offer. I did not find KEIS fully heated gloves to the price they are selling them for – they seem pretty normal for the price you would not want to pay for them. Alpinestars heated gloves are fairly out of stock on most online and in-stores so they do not have niche market in real scenarios for them.

My Ratings : 4.5 out of 5
Bottomline: If you can afford these for few winter rides you accomplish then go for these without a doubt. You will struggle for first few times getting used to them but once you find the right comfort with them – these will keep your finger frostbites as things of the past.

Suzuki GSXR 750 – Ride Review

As a child, I grew up thinking of only one thing – “If I could ever get to be on this fast, real fast motorcycle” that will do standstill to 100 in the first gear and 200 in the second gear. Yeah all those thoughts come true with time, desire, patience and passion. I just never knew when, how and where.

Now, as an adult I have reached that stage where I do have that childhood realization turn reality with time. I welcome you all to the ride review of the SUZUKI GSXR 750 – the real rocket which does as your imagination can make you think of it. This is for real that this motorcycle is FAST, FAAAST, really very FAAASST and can kill you if not handled with precise control and superb decision making process inside your brain. No, it is no brainer for all the speed freaks out there but this is at the same time a machine meant to take you into the higher level. There is nothing wrong about this bike but everything that is there is just right and light.

Let me introduce you to the SUZUKI GSXR 750, I am sure it needs no introduction – smooth as silk, fast as you can face, corners like a melting butter on hot tarmac – there are not enough synonyms to play with. It is fairly simple if you are a rider – you will adore, love and respect this machine. I have done 2100miles to date on this fairly 3year old Suzuki GSXR which has 18000miles on it when I got it. It now has over 20000miles and it leaves me no box un-ticked for its comparison. I can give an insider out review on it but let’s stick to the basics of what everyone wants to know of.

Acceleration: 0-60mph(0-100kmph) – is blistering fast. Real trait of this is known on the real tarmac or track. Considering you can easily clock 120mph(200kmph) in the second gear shift – it does give you an immense idea of what I am talking here. It is more than a beast considering the way it moves. 10/10

Braking: Well, I won’t have a distance figures but I always say nothing can stop you from killing yourself but yeah if you have got some road and really clean surface you can stop yourself before you kill yourself. Jokes apart, the braking is fairly decent and I would only give it 7/10 as there is plenty of room where this can be improved.

Handling: I, insist – this is going to be a top brass when it comes to handling. This is a superb piece of machinery designed well in line with contours to keep your adrenalin flowing to the fullest. No holds barred. The light weight makes it best contender in its class. You are looking at a 750cc with a handling of a 600cc which makes it one in its category. I call it unbeatable when it comes to the smooth handling of this beast. 10/10

Mileage: Big question, small answer – “Very good” considering I am doing an average of 66miles a day – using this bike same as my other very reliable Yamaha Fazer FZ6 600S2, there is seriously not a huge lot of difference. This will come to reserve or the reserve lights will come at about 135miles. The best I have had so far is 143miles before the reserve kicked in included couple of hours on the motorway. I would give it fairly high ratings of 8.5/10

Comfort: On the longest single ride that I had on it was 143miles without a stop and that was fair grounds to test this ride to its best potential. You can get cracking on with it opening the accelerator or be sensible riding it with constant motorway speed limits and get a wow sort of mileage and same time the comfort. Gxxr750 is kind on wrists, seating posture and your knees positioning. This bike has 3 step adjustable foot rest which can be adjusted depending on how tall or short you are and if you want a more relaxed posture. One shortfall is it does tend to strain the back after a period of time but hey this is not a touring bike which you can go on touring for hours but yes it is fairly good for motorways splash and dash rides. I would rate it 8/10

Nothing beats the beast inside. The Engine in itself is smooth power house that hides itself well behind the plastic shrouds and the sexy looking cowls on its either side – you can absolutely be happy with this machine and never complain about missing a beat. The only thing you can miss on it is – not getting seen by someone and getting over run (on the funny note). Do not underestimate the power of this 150bhp that can get you well over and beyond mental speeds of no coming back. I have called it off at xxxmph after which I did feel this is one helluva motorcycle that is lot more capable in its hidden form under its hood. It still had lot more room but I would leave that till I can head out on the Autobahn the next time.

As for the beginners, this is not the first time bike if you are new on the scene. I am not trying to de-motivate you or stop you but just be kind on yourself and learn to handle the bike on a 600cc. I do see this to be an advanced level bike which has thrills, speed and all the things you want out of a litre bike. The best part is – it won’t leave you with much more to ask from it.

Suzuki Gladius – 650cc – Ride Review.

Motorcycles, I love them to the point that I can actual feel connected to them in one small ride. To know the good depth inside and outside you need to know what you are all about. I have been given a loan bike for a little while and I felt I had to share this because there is a small wonder in this world made for those who actually feel there is not enough for them. I feel this is one motorcycle which is made just for the right people and right crowd who love to have something under them and make them feel confident. It is particularly not my kind of bike as I am tall and love to have something more powerful than what this 650 offers.

Suzuki Gladius, 645cc fuel-injected DOHC 90-degree V-Twin engine that has the grunt feel but much smooth. V-twin power plant has smooth delivery but sudden drop of power when changing gears, if you ride long enough you would either love it or hate it. It is what v-twins does to you – make them love or hate. Well, that said – the world still is mad about the DUCATI’s twins but here is what makes this competition smooth. Gladius is smooth but equally well balanced, low and perfect for all those who wants to explore the power of v-twins. The bike seating could have done with bit more cushioning as I feel this is really too much on cost cutting. My bum is totally angry because the seat absolutely has not enough cushioning in it and I wonder how it wants to cope with the bigger riders. Other thing, I really felt annoyed is, I could touch my riding boots on corners – leaning the bike even at the slightest angles – it really is meant for small people. I guess this is the best bike for beginners, female riders looking to get started with and those looking for city riding only.

Pros :
Excellent mileage bike – The Best in its class or 600’s
Light – good for beginners
Control – feels good and rider feels well on top.

Low seating – bad cushioning
No front wind deflector
Not for tall riders
Brakes feel very soft
